Morning Coffee
GOUDOUGH’S BIG FAT DONUT 7TH FLAG COFFEE
Like nearly every other city, Austin has an excellent selection of coffee shops. While on our morning run to get pictures of the various murals, we discovered 7th Flag Coffee, just next to the “Greetings From Austin” mural. They use coffee roasted by City Of Saints in Brooklyn, NY. We got two cortados and a matcha latte, all of which were delicious. I wouldn’t hesitate to go back to this place. Once you get your coffee here walk across the steet and get your donut at Gourdough’s Big Fat Donut and take more Instagram worthy pictures.
Breakfast Tacos
EL PRIMO TACO TRUCK Sausage and Eggs
BREAKFAST TACO
We weren’t quite hungry for breakfast just yet, but we have heard all the hype about the Austin breakfast tacos. We found El Primo in the parking lot of a tiny shopping complex home to a convenience store and a barber shop. (Yes, this tiny little food trailer has their own website!!!) It wasn’t terribly busy but there was still a wait, so we ordered a quesadilla for my daughter for breakfast, one bacon breakfast burrito, and one saugage breakfast taco. After a 20 minute wait, our food was ready and it really blew us away, exceeding our expectations. As I said, we have eaten our share of delicious Mexican food and weren’t really sure how good these Austin breakfast tacos could be, but they absolutely lived up the fame. I highly recommend this place, especially the sausage breakfast tacos. They are delicious and the whole experience of eating outside along 1st Street pretty much sums up the quintessential Austin street food experience, especially these breakfast tacos!
Mount Bonnell
This happened to be such a beautiful day in January and Austin has some great outdoor sceneries. So we headed out to see the views of the Colorado River and the city at Mount Bonnell. There’s a crowd at this look out for sure but ample of free parking. It’s a quick walk up to a bunch of stairs leading to the top of the park, we spent about 45 minutes for picture taking and admiring the view.
Twin Falls
We wanted to do more ‘outdoorsy’ stuff and not just be walking around city blocks. My kids love hiking, so we read about Twin Falls located at the Barton Creek Greenbelt. We wanted to take advantage of this beautiful weather we lucked out with.
Not knowing what to expect, we found a nice hiking trail. It was quite busy with people, and when we saw the ‘creek’ there was no water. We arrived at the ‘waterfall’ and it was completely dry! There wasn’t any water whatsoever in the creek bed, though all evidence pointed to a large creek bed and a large waterfall having been present at some point.
Nonetheless, it was pretty interesting to see and my kids absolutely loved it. My youngest daugher even made a comment asking if we could stay there all day because she was having so much fun.
