When you talk to people that have the same passion as you do about traveling you get a lot of ideas and inspiration. I enjoy hearing stories about other people and their travels and especially all the details that we try to apply when my family and I travel. Our next trip idea started from a story telling conversation with my collegue who told me about her travel adventures to the Netherlands and Belgium with her kids. She spoke about the beautiful gardens and the abundance of museums and history for the kids to see in both countries. I was inspired. This trip would be just in time as my kids’ school spring break vaction was approaching. So that is where we decided to go.

One Week in Croatia
Deciding where to take our next family trip for the kids’ school Spring Break was a really easy decision after seeing beautiful pictures of Croatia.
Getting there
Getting to Croatia was not as straightforward as it was for us to get to most other cities in Western Europe that we had visited, though it was not too challenging. There weren’t any direct flights available for us, so the most efficient and economical option was to first fly to Munich, Germany. From there we could have taken a quick and convenient flight to Zagreb, however we decided to take an overnight train since we hadn’t done that before and wanted to try something new.

Last minute trips are what I get really excited over, and I planned this short trip to New Zealand with my family about a month before we went. However we didn’t finalize any of the details until about 2 days before our flight. My family is very much accustomed to this type of craziness, but fortunately with all the resources available on the internet it’s not difficult to figure out where to go and what to see. Our flight departed San Francisco and we arrived in Auckland about twenty minutes early. It took nearly two hours to get out of the airport, to claim our bags and get through customs processing and the strict agricultural checks when entering New Zealand.
There are numerous multinational car rental companies operating in New Zealand, however we decided to rent our car from Omega Rental Cars which is a very popular New Zealand rental car agency. After a five minute shuttle ride to the rental car office, we got settled into our car and my husband quickly got used to driving on the opposite side of the road (this being the 2nd time he had done this).
